A new Christmas event for Witney is set to shine with some extra sparkle, thanks to a £2,500 boost from our Cottsway Community Fund.
We are among local organisations and businesses sponsoring Witney Wonderland festival; a new free six-week event for the local community kicking off at Witney’s Christmas light switch on Friday 30 November.
We will be decorating a Christmas tree which will form part of a large festive display open to the public at St Mary’s Church, Witney.
Our Communities Manager Vicki Paxford said: “As the largest landlord in West Oxfordshire, we operate at the heart of our community. We are therefore delighted to support this inspiring event which we hope will enable local families to have a great time together and to create some amazing memories.
“The community and charitable spirit shown by the organisers is impressive and we’re proud to support their hard work. It is events such as these that help create places where people want to live, enabling neighbours to mix and everyone to celebrate together for free.”
Cottsway Community Fund is a pot of money made available each year to projects which benefit the community or which support an individual Cottsway customer, or their immediate family member, into employment or training.
The grant can be used to buy items of equipment, fund local events and one-off projects, training for the group to improve their services, printing and publicity, environmental projects and improvements. Individuals can apply for course costs, books and equipment to support learning and skills development.
This year the £20,000 fund has been given or allocated to 17 groups and individuals, including Oxfordshire Play Association, Tower Hill School and Eynsham Carnival. Applications for this financial year are closed, but interested groups and individuals can apply from April 1 for the next round of funding.
