New affordable homes on the way in Leckhampton, Gloucestershire

We have completed contracts to deliver 140 new affordable homes on a development in the village of Leckhampton, almost a quarter of which will be suitable for wheelchair use or adaptable for people with disabilities.

We have completed contracts to deliver 140 new affordable homes on a development in the village of Leckhampton, almost a quarter of which will be suitable for wheelchair use or adaptable for people with disabilities.

Miller Homes will be building the new homes on our behalf. The development, on Shurdington Road, is located just 2 miles from central Cheltenham and will provide a mix of 1 to 5 -bed properties - 57 for affordable rent, 41 for social rent and 42 for shared ownership.

There will be:

  • 98 houses
  • 24 apartments
  • 12 bungalows
  • 6 coach houses

Four of the properties will be fully adapted for wheelchair use at the time of completion, while a further 25 homes will be built to be adaptable in the future for people with disabilities.

All of the properties will benefit from solar panels and air source heat pumps, and homes with their own private parking space will have an electric vehicle charging point installed to help meet customers’ needs in the future.

Colin Bloodworth, our Director of Development and Partnerships, said: “Cottsway is the largest affordable housing provider in West Oxfordshire and we have a growing number of homes in Gloucestershire. We currently have just over 180 properties in Cheltenham, so this new development will add significantly to the properties we have there.

“There is a shortage of affordable accessible homes and so we are extremely pleased that almost a quarter of the homes we will have at the development will help to meet this need. We’re also pleased that a significant amount will be available for social and affordable rent, all with features in line with our commitment to deliver energy efficient homes to not only support our wider work reduce our carbon footprint, but importantly to support customers with energy costs.”

The 140 Cottsway properties are part of a larger development by Miller Homes, which will offer 350 new homes in total when complete.

Matthew Bench, Group Managing Director – Partnerships at Miller Homes, said: “Miller Homes is delighted to have agreed this deal with Cottsway to deliver 140 homes in Leckhampton, and we hope this forms the foundation for many more in the future. We look forward to providing high quality and sustainable homes for the area and investing in the neighbourhood to ensure that the community we build, and the people living in it, can grow and prosper.”

The first Cottsway homes are due be ready for occupation from Autumn 2025, with the remainder being completed over the next 4 years.

Those for affordable and social rent will be advertised on the Homeseeker Plus website closer to the time of completion. All applicants will need to register on the Homeseeker Plus website
