Consultation: Proposed redevelopment of Evenlode, Charlbury

We're asking for views on our proposals to redevelop our Evenlode site, a former sheltered housing scheme in Charlbury.

Evenlode was built in the late-1960s, and we have deemed that it falls below the high standards our customers deserve and expect. We have worked closely with the former residents of Evenlode and found them alternative housing that best suits their needs.

We now plan to redevelop the site and are considering:

  • demolishing the existing building and three associated garages; and
  • building 15 new, modern one and two-bedroom apartments for social rent for local people aged over 55.

Our proposals include associated parking, mobility scooter and bike storage for the properties, solar panels, air source heat pumps to provide heating and hot water, and electric vehicle charging points.

Due to the planning process, no timeframes have been determined for this redevelopment work yet, but you can see the illustrations and plans for the proposed new building below.

Plans

Why we are doing this

We are West Oxfordshire’s largest affordable housing provider, and this is part of our ongoing work to provide more homes for people in housing need. If we receive planning consent, these new homes will be available to people aged over 55 who cannot afford to buy or rent on the open market.

What next

Before we submit a planning application to West Oxfordshire District Council, we are inviting people to give their views and we have written to nearby residents to keep them informed.
