You must ask our permission before keeping some pets. We will always try to support your request where possible, taking into account your circumstances and your ability to care for the animal.
We consider each request individually. In most cases, permission may be given if you have a private, enclosed garden that is not shared with neighbours.
You may be able to keep:
- Dogs and cats: You must have your own entrance to your home and ask for permission for each dog or cat.
- Poultry: You may also need permission from your local council.
If you need an assistance animal, we will consider this as part of your housing needs and your ability to live independently.
If we refuse your request to keep a pet, you can appeal the decision. To do this, contact us
We may withdraw permission if a pet causes a nuisance to neighbours. For example:
- Dogs barking repeatedly
- Cockerels crowing
- Owners not cleaning up after their pets
